MASCHINENMENSCH
A tribute to German Expressionism
The Bauhaus Movement, which has influenced the most diverse arts, in addition to architecture, completed 100 years of its creation by Walter Gropius in 2019. Started in architecture, its minimalist design and pure geometric forms have spread to the most diverse areas. It ended up being a strong influence on cinema, in the film Metropolis by Fritz Lang, released in 1927, being one of the first science fiction films. Brigitte Helm, who played the protagonist Maria and Maschinenmensch/Falsa Maria, a cloned machine in her appearance, has a fantastic performance in this transformation, going from the sweet Maria to the cold Maschinenmensch (Man-machine in the literal translation from German). This photo brings a reinterpretation of the moment of the Maria/Maschinenmensch transformation.
